Launch of Legendotes of Hyderabad
The book was launched in Hyderabad on 30 January at 6 P.M. at the IAS Association Building, Begumpet.
Legendotes
It is a term coined by the author by combing legends and anecdotes.
Generally Legends are considered the 'gossips' of history. However, the author argues that sometimes they are also the stuff of history.
On the highway of formal history, legends and anecdotes do not get their due credit. However much of the crucial facts and causes of historical developments lie scattered about in the lanes and by- lanes of history. They are therefore a material factor in any historiography.
From 25, 000 million years- old rocks which dot Hyderabad, up to 1995, some authentic memorable legends and anecdotes are described in the book. Most of them are illustrated. To emphasize their authenticity the author has cited the source of each entry in the book.
The Author:
Narendra Luther is a former IAS officer who retired as chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He has written extensively on the history and culture of Hyderabad and is considered the foremost living authority on the subject. This is his 13th book in English. Some of his books have been translated into other Indian languages. He has written four books in Urdu and won seven awards.
The Publisher
The book is liberally illustrated and artistically produced by Niyogi Books, a major publisher of international repute located in New Delhi. It has overseas distributors in U.S., Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia
