After 'Bholaa Shankar', another costly gamble by AK Entertainments

AK Entertainments recently announced an ambitious project led by Sundeep Kishan, an actor with one of the least success rates in Telugu cinema. The film, to be released in multiple languages, will be directed by CV Kumar of Kollywood. The film is titled 'Maaya One'.

The project is a gamble for at least two reasons. For one, the combination of a Telugu hero with a Tamil director has mostly resulted in flops in recent times. Naga Chaitanya's 'Custody' with Venkat Prabhu is just one example. As it is, Sundeep is not in form, with his pan-Indian 'Michael' flopping big time earlier this year.

For another, the film is a sci-fi thriller, one of the most complicated and difficult genres to handle in the OTT era when the audience's expectations have skyrocketed. At a time when trends have changed radically, the much-delayed sequel to a 2017 movie sounds like a gamble.

Starring Aakanksha Ranjan Kapoor as the heroine, 'Maaya One' will have Neil Nitin Mukesh of 'Saaho' fame in a pivotal role. The music is by Santhosh Narayanan.
