Aamir Khan is currently producing a spy action comedy titled Happy Patel, to be released in theatres next month. In a promotional video, he takes a dig at himself in different ways. Vir Das, the film's director, says that everyone has a flop and that Laal Singh Chaddha was one. At this, Aamir gets enraged and starts hitting Vir Das. In another instance, when the alpha audience of the movie praise it, Aamir takes a clever U-Turn and credits himself with pushing the creative boundaries of Vir Das. He also says that he did say he wanted Happy Patel to be an offbeat film only for namesake, suggesting that what stars say in interviews is different from their real intentions.
Aamir Khan's success rate is among the highest in the country and yet he didn't shy away from making fun of himself over his one recent flop. This is a far cry from how Telugu stars try to gloss over their failures and take offence when asked about a disaster. Almost all Telugu actors resort to exaggerations and hyperboles in pre-release interviews/events. Yet, none has the honesty to even once say that they admit to saying things for namesake. Aamir Khan is not wary of his fan base. On the other hand, Telugu actors guard their image in childish ways.
