Will cinema tickets get cheaper? PVR Inox weighs in

Amid the growing feeling that cinema ticket prices are too high in cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, PVR Inox's Executive Director has opined that most audience members see the rates as palatable and affordable.

The national average ticket price in multiplexes is Rs 260, which is nothing compared to what prevails in developed countries, he told The Hollywood Reporter India. Multiplexes can't afford to bring down ticket prices due to high input costs (exorbitant real-estate costs, raise in minimum wages, and high electricity costs).

This is conclusive evidence that multiplex ticket prices won't be reduced. Reducing them will make it unsustainable.

Also, PVR Inox has registered more footfalls this year than the previous year. If disposable incomes go up and exciting content gets made in English, Hindi and Telugu, further increase in footfalls will be a reality in 2026.
