A shocking fact is that Superstar Rajinikanth's movies have mostly ended up incurring losses in Telugu in the last ten years. 2.0 and Jailer appear to be rare exceptions. In a recent interview, distributor and producer Shirish revealed that Jailer is the only Rajini film that made money among the movies they distributed in Telugu.
"Annaatthe (2021) was released as Peddanna in Telugu. It was a disaster. Vettaiyan, released last year, was a disaster in Telugu," Shirish said.
It's safe to conclude that Kochadaiiyaan was a disaster, Lingaa was an even disaster, Kabali was a flop, and Kaala was a flop. Peta, Lal Salaam and Darbar too lost monies in Telugu. Cine-goers are shocked to learn that one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema has these many disasters in ten years.
Despite the abysmal track record, Rajinikanth's Coolie has banked Rs 50 Cr from Telugu-dubbed release rights. Asian Suresh Entertainment has bagged the movie. Coolie will hit the cinemas on August 14th.
