Prakash Raj, following the announcement of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards where he served as jury chairman, made strong criticisms regarding the National Film Awards jury and process. He stated that the national awards jury is compromised. He took potshots at right-wing political films winning awards in the past.
Prakash Raj hails from Karnataka and has extensively worked in Telugu and Tamil. Curiously, he has never questioned any Nandi Award jury. He didn't question the choices made by the Gaddar Awards jury recently.
Ironically, during the making of Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevatham, Prakash Raj shouted at its director (AS Ravikumar) for seeking a retake, saying he knows how to act. He cited his National Award credentials on set!
If Prakash Raj is to be believed, all compromises have been made by national award juries only after Narendra Modi became the PM. Otherwise, awards in the country always go to the most deserving ones, like Mammootty and himself!
