Prabhas' character in Spirit is going to be flawed. He may be an IPS academy topper and a highly competent IPS officer, but when he is down, he can't help himself without baring his whims and flaws. "What’s the obsession with protagonists being toppers and doing psyche things?" a movie buff asked Sandeep Reddy Vanga, on X.
Arjun Reddy, played by Vijay Deverakonda, was a topper with anger management issues. In Animal, Ranbir Kapoor's character battled his own demons. In Spirit, Prabhas suffers from "one bad habit", whatever it might mean. "Vanga's protagonists aren't white; they are aware of their actions. The incidents that occur in their world turn them grey. Their attitude stems from confidence and knowledge, otherwise, they would be high achievers leading a normal life like any other," The Rajesh wrote on X.
Flaws were glamourized in a big way by Puri Jagannadh's early movies. Vanga, though, is not a copycat filmmaker. His heroes come from a certain socio-economic background and symbolize certain specific traits/ideologies without claiming to make it sound like their qualities are universally good. They are not generic, which is why the tension and drama around them works every time.
