Dhanya Balakrishna on rejecting roles involving glamour, intimacy

Dhanya Balakrishna, who gained wider recognition in popular Telugu films like the multi-starrer Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013) and the successful horror-comedy Raju Gari Gadhi (2015), as well as Nenu Sailaja (2016), has said that she rejected glamorous roles, which is why she hasn't acted in too many commercial movies in her career.

"I come from a middle-class family. My banker father and homemaker mom and my orthodox upbringing made me impose restrictions on myself. It took a lot of convincing for me to become an actress. I rejected roles involving excessive intimacy and have never been ready for overly glamorous parts. As far as I am concerned, whatever roles I have got to do are a mark of success, considering my humble origins," Dhanya said.

Her filmography also includes the Telugu zombie comedy Thanu Vachenanta and Malayalam films like Love Action Drama (2019) and Puzhikkadakan (2019), and a Kannada debut with Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakasha (2019). More recently, she has appeared in films like Software Sudheer (2019), Carbon (2022), and RAM (Rapid Action Mission) (2024).
