My character in Thammudu is strong, playful and tinged with action: Sapthami Gowda

"I was the first artist to be roped in for Thammudu," says Sapthami Gowda, who shot to fame with Kantara in 2022. She is proud to be making her Tollywood debut under a Dil Raju production. In this interview, she talks about her character, saying that writer-director Venu Sriram has shaped every character strongly. Thammudu, which is slated to hit the cinemas on July 4th, is headlined by Nithiin.

Ratna is my character's name in Thammudu. I hail from a small village. My character has a love story of her own. I play a fan of Pawan Kalyan in the film.

This offer came my way because of Kantara. I participated in a look-test and was given a dialogue version. I was told to learn horse-riding for the part. For the movie, I had to ride horses in difficult terrain full of hills and rocks. Despite the not-so-lengthy part in the film, as Ratna, I am surely going to make the mark. The impact will be there.

There are no similarities between my roles in Kantara and Thammudu. My character is actually lighter-veined. I cross paths with the characters of Nithiin and Laya when they visit the village where my character lives. Eventually, the three characters end up travelling together. Since Ratna is not aware of the state of mind of the other two characters, she is playful in their presence. This unwitting humour is fun to watch. Contrary to speculations, I am not a local RJ in the film. It's true that I have got action blocks. But I am not the only female character to have got to do action.

Besides mine, four other female characters have an integral role in the story. Gutthi (Swasika) is a bus driver. Laya is a sincere government official.

I share a romantic relationship with Nithiin's character. It's a teen love story that evolves as our characters age. Their union will be strongly desired by the audience.

The two trailers released so far have validated our claims that Thammudu is a big-screen movie. This is ideally watched on the big screen for the best possible experience.

I slowed down after Kantara because I received predictable roles after that movie. I turned down those offers and waited for something fresh.

Thammudu is a commercial film, and I am keen on taking on similar commercial projects in the future. I am particularly interested in roles like the one Rashmika Mandanna played in the Pushpa movies.

I have two movies coming up in Telugu after Thammudu. I am also doing films in Kannada and Tamil.
