Netflix is opening an office in Hyderabad. It will be their second major office in India, following their existing one in Mumbai. Post-production and Technical work, especially in the VFX (Visual Effects) space, will be major focus areas of the office. Regional content development (particularly Telugu) are expected to receive a booster shot.
It's being said that Telugu directors who are struggling to firm up movie projects due to sagging theatrical business fortunes in recent years are hoping to impress upon Netflix for web series and other Originals. From the beginning, Aha, ZEE5 and SonyLIV have gotten into the space better, working with several Tollywoodians. However, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have not shown much interest in Telugu filmmakers. The Hyderabad office could turn the tables. Certain new-age filmmakers need to bring out inventive content on OTT. Will Netflix be going for a big line-up?
