These days, boasting about small budgets is fashionable if your film is visually stunning. The makers of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra and Mirai have pitched their film's moderate budgets as their biggest merits. Every social media influencer reviewing Mirai mentioned its budget (Rs 60 Cr). They could confidently brag about those modest budgets because nobody felt the visuals of Lokah and Mirai were anything less than spectacular.
While one set of producers take pride in saying that their movies didn't need too much investment, another set of producers/directors are doing the opposite. Recently, the director of an upcoming Prabhas movie stated that their movie's budget is Rs 400 Cr. We are talking about The Raja Saab, which has been touted to be India's biggest horror-fantasy ever.
It would be a great day when the movies of superstars like Prabhas, Allu Arjun and Jr NTR hog headlines for their modest budgets. That will happen only if star remunerations come down to reasonable levels, and the quality of visuals in their films outcompetes that of films like Mirai.
