Amid Sankranthi delays, netizens recall Sandeep Vanga's bold views

The CBFC is reportedly delaying censor certifications to Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi due to political pressure. The Board is supposed to work independently, but it has never done so.

Amidst concerns that the release of the two Tamil movies might happen only after bouts of avoidable stress, netizens are recalling director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's frank, controversial views on the CBFC. In a roundtable debate after the release of Arjun Reddy, the director blasted censor board members, saying that they are illiterate when it comes to filmmaking. "They objected to some scenes in Arjun Reddy, particularly the reference to PMS and the male lead saying that Preethi was his. I asked them why they have a problem with the PMS reference when they otherwise support the cause of women empowerment. I asked them why they have a problem with some dialogues when they were giving my movie 'A' rating," Vanga said.

Sandeep Vanga further shared that the CBFC back then had some 70 officials, out of which four randomly choose to certify a single film. "I hate to explain myself to such individuals who are ignorant about everything," the Animal and Spirit maker added.

Why can't most filmmakers and producers be this blunt about the CBFC? Recently, when actor Bandi Saroj made a casual remark at an event of Mowgli, People Media Factory issued an apology to the Board.
