K Rani, yesteryear popular playback singer, who became famous at the age of 10 with a sad song ‘Antha Branthiyena…Jeevithana Veluginthena’ in the super hit film Devadasu, breathed her last on Friday night at 9:10 pm. Her saddening demise took place at her elder daughter Vijaya’s residence in Kalyan Nagar, Hyderabad. Rani’s younger daughter Kavitha pronounced her dead. K Rani was 75 years old.
Rani, who entered the film industry as playback singer at the age of 9, has sung more than 500 songs in several languages. She married Galiveeti Seetharamireddy in 1951. She also sang Srilanka national anthem ‘The Srilanka Matha’. Indian National Congress Leader K Kamaraj called her ‘Innisai Rani’ then. She performed before President of India Sarvepalli Radhakrishna.
