'Son Of India' has been a damp squib. On Day 1 (Feb 18), a record number of shows were reportedly called off by multiplexes and theatres across the Telugu States. The exhibitors might have hoped that the film would draw decent crowds considering that there is no superstar movie playing in theatres currently.
But all hopes were dashed by the monumentally lacklustre response everywhere from Hyderabad to Seema and Andhra. The question is, what worked against 'Son Of India'?
There are two arguments: One is that Mohan Babu's behaviour (during the MAA elections and his words spoken in interviews) hasn't been liked by youths, who boycotted the movie. This doesn't look plausible, considering that most of the audiences don't care about what an actor says outside films. They want entertainment/drama in a film and nothing else matters.
So, the second argument holds. The trailer for 'Son Of India' had nothing good in it. It was clear that the film was an inferior vigilante actioner with tacky visuals. That's why the advance bookings were nil. Understandably, the film flopped.
