'Thank You' is understood to be on its way to becoming a flop. As per a trade report, its Day 1 collections were sub-par. The already-low potential was further damaged by heavy rains in Hyderabad on the release date.
Producer Dil Raju may actually have anticipated the failure of the movie, although he did everything in his capacity to promote it till the last minute. Naga Chaitanya, too, spent days promoting the Vikram K Kumar directorial.
What makes us believe that the producer had anticipated the failure? In an interview before the movie's release, the Sri Venkateswara Creations supremo said that a lot of scripts have become outdated after the pandemic, with the audience exposed to OTT culture. Scripts okayed indiscriminately by actors during the pandemic are out of tune with the changing tastes of the audience, he suggested. In a way, he might have had 'Thank You', too, in his mind when he made the statement.
"During the lockdown, writers/directors started writing stories because they found a hell lot of free time. Even the actors okayed those scripts. But they didn't have an inkling about the transformed audience's tastes," Raju said.
Raju is one of the few producers who has his hand on the pulse of the auidence. Expect him to be at the forefront of upping the game in the coming years.
