Director Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Babli Bouncer', headlined by Tamannaah Bhatia, is gearing up for a direct OTT release. The film will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar from September 23 in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. The fictional story is set in Asola Fatepur, a town in South Delhi and known as the 'Bouncer Town'.
On Saturday, the actress-director duo was in Hyderabad to promote the Telugu version. Speaking on the occasion, Bhandarkar said that he has had a special association with Hyderabad since his first movie, 'Chandini Bar', was filmed at Ramoji Film City. He added that, during his association with Ram Gopal Varma in the 1990s, he was in Hyderabad during the making of a lot of films.
The director praised Tamannaah and said that her performance as visible in the trailer is a befitting reply to those who were skeptical about her abilities. "I have made this film based on lady bouncers in North India. After a film like 'Baahubali', Tamannaah has nailed it with her performance in 'Babli Bouncer'," the director added.
Tamannaah said, "I feel lucky to have got to work with Bhandarkar, who has won many National Awards in the past. Films made by Rajamouli and Sukumar have proven that the emotional foundation of a film must be strong for it to work with a vast section of the audience. I feel glad to have got to play a Haryanvi woman in this film."
Bankrolled by Fox Star Studios and Junglee Pictures, the film also stars Saurabh Shukla, Abhishek Bajaj and Sahil Vaid.
