Many years ago, yesteryear heroine Jeevitha and her husband, Rajasekhar, alleged that the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank was embroiled in irregularities. She indicated that blood units were sold by the bank in the black market. At that time, Allu Aravind filed a defamation suit against her in a local court in Hyderabad.
The news is that the couple has been awarded a jail term of one year in connection with the case. Besides, she will have to pay Rs 5 lakh as penalty.
They have since been granted bail. The couple are now free to appeal in a higher court.
Back in 2011, Allu Aravind was the managing trustee of the bank. He suggested that Jeevitha and Rajasekhar were making baseless allegations at the behest of the then Congress government. "The Blood Bank has received a state award in the past. Through the Bank, 1,70,000 units of blood have reached the needy in terms of emergency. More than 30,000 units were donated to government hospitals for free," Aravind said.
