Kollywood producer SR Prabhu is known for films like 'Oke Oka Jeevitham'. At Dream Warrior Pictures, he is currently bankrolling Karthi-starrer 'Japan', the pan-South Indian movie.
On Wednesday, he lamented that production costs have gone up as much as three times post pandemic in the Tamil film industry, adding that the rising costs have been exacerbated by falling footfalls in theatres.
"Film production cost with professional crew has gone upto 3 fold post pandemic! Footfalls in theatres have come down even for ‘good’ films. It is now all in the hands of non-theatrical avenues to save 'decent' filmmakers. Though it's part of a cycle, be the best to survive," he added.
Although, SR Prabhu is talking about Kollywood, it is safe to say that the situation is not that great in Telugu cinema either. Also, our producers such as Dil Raju are making Tamil movies these days. Imagine the production costs of RC15, for instance!
