Kota Srinivasa Rao today condemned rumours about his demise. In the wee hours of Tuesday, social media was agog with the fake news that the celebrated artist had passed away last night.
"I want to make it clear that I am doing fine. After the social media-generated rumour-mongering, I and my office have received as many as 50 phone calls inquiring about me," Kota said in a video statement.
He added that even the police department believed in the fake news. A contingent of ten cops/constables turned up at his residence to provide security in anticipation of the arrival of VIPs to see Kota's 'mortal remains'. A visibly upset Kota urged people not to create rumours over sensitive issues. "There are so many lowly ways to make money. Creating death rumours (about celebs) is one of them. Don't resort to it," he added.
