Earlier this week, many exhibitors started staging a dharna demanding that they be compensated for the losses made on 'Liger'. Their demand is directed at Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur. Those exhibitors had purportedly loaned crores of rupees to distributor Warangal Srinu towards acquiring the rights to the Vijay Deverakona movie.
In his latest interview, Warangal Srinu, who has been nearly depressed since the failure of the film last August, talked about the quantum of losses incurred by him.
Srinu bought the rights to the theatrical release of the movie for entire South India by paying Rs 55 Cr on an NRA basis. He later sold the movie to other distributors. He released the film in Nizam on his own. In Nizam, he made losses to the tune of Rs 18 Cr.
As per him, 'Liger' was made on an estimated budget of Rs 50-60 Cr or thereabouts (excluding the hero's remuneration). The producers recovered the budget even before the film's release by way of non-theatrical revenue alone. It is the distributors and exhibitors who made heavy losses.
