Rajamouli’s Eega shortlisted for an Academy Award

Rajamouli’s science-fiction fantasy film ‘Eega’ which created box-office sensation in South India and abroad has been shortlisted for Oscars, 2012. ‘Eega’ is one among 15 Indian films that was shortlisted for the nomination in the Best Foreign Language film category at the 2012 prestigious Academy Awards. Along with ‘Eega’ from tinsel town, other films which have been chosen by the Film Federation of India were ‘7 AM Arivu’ & ‘Vallaku En 18/9’ from Tamil, ‘Akashaninthe Niram’ from Malayalam, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Kahaani’, ‘Heroine’, ‘Barfi’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, Tomar’, ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ and ‘Paan Singh’ from Hindi, ‘Deol’ from Marati, and a film each from Punjabi and Gujarati. These films will be watched by the 16 member jury from September 18-26 at South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad. President of SIFCC and SFFI C Kalyan informed the media that one film will be chosen from these 15 shortlisted films to represent Indian Cinema at the Oscars.
