Actress and BJP politician Madhavi Latha has alleged that drug abuse is widespread in Tollywood. Her comments came days after Kangana Ranaut alleged that much of Bollywood has been into drugs. Latha opined that there should be a probe into the same, as drugs are commonly used in rave parties by Tollywoodians.
She said that investigating agencies should probe the "extensive substance abuse" in the Telugu film industry. Madhavi Latha, who is known for bold comments, is perhaps the first Telugu film personality to make such comments in the context of the Narcotic Crime Bureau investigating the drugs cartels angle in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
"I have known about the existence of drug abuse since 2010. Pubs and celeb parties are hotbeds of drug abuse (facilitated by drug cartels). Consuming cocaine indiscriminately is a crime as per the law. Doing drugs excessively can be fatal. Lives are ruined in the process. It was hoped that the SIT, headed by Akun Sabharwal (in 2017), would carry the probe to a logical conclusion. But that didn't happen," she added.
