Samantha Akkineni has opened up on her approach to playing Raji in 'The Family Man 2', which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. The character is that of a Sri Lankan rebel army member.
Sam said that portraying Raji required sensitivity and balance. The star actress observed that she was particular about the portrayal being balanced, nuanced, and sensitive. She used terms like 'identity, 'liberty' and the 'right to self-determination' in her Instagram post.
What did the creators do when they approached her for the challenging role? "The creative team shared documentaries of the Tamil struggle that included stories of women in the Eelam war," the 'Majili' actress revealed.
The 'Oh Baby' actress added that she was aghast and shocked by the troubles and unspeakable grief that the Tamils of Eelam went through for an extended period of time. When tens of thousands of people were being killed, the world looked the other way, Samantha lamented.
Samantha added that Raji's story, albeit fictional, is a tribute to those that died because of an unequal war.
