On November 14, the Telugu Directors' Council will go for polls to elect its office-bearers. Recently, returning officer TVR Chowdhary rejected the nomination filed by two individuals for the election. His decision was deemed undemocratic. The candidacy of senior journalist Prabhu was rejected by Chowdhary on the grounds that the former is already a member of the Film Critics Association. The returning officer made the excuse that a member who is part of one of the 24 crafts' associations can't contest in the Directors' Council.
Journalist Prabhu opposed the rejection of his nomination, saying that there is no such rule in place. He went against the returning officer, arguing that the nomination was rejected on purpose.
Prabhu fought the case legally, alleging that some cine personalities are behind the rejection of his nomination. He also said that the minutes' book was tampered with and approached the High Court with a writ petition. The Court has said that the rejection of the nomination doesn't stand legal scrutiny.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhu said, "The verdict is historic. It's a slap on the undemocratic behaviour of some forces in the Directors' Council. What have the individuals achieved by trying to put me down? Nothing. I am confident that I can win with a thumping majority."
Senior filmmaker Maddineni Ramesh has also got a favourable verdict. Lyricist and young lawyer Jakkula Lakshman has argued Prabhu's case in the court.
