The Income-Tax department, on Saturday, said in a statement that the total amount of tax evaded by Sonu Sood has been estimated to be more than Rs 20 crore. The statement comes after three days of searching and surveying at the premises of the multi-lingual star, who has been running an NGO to carry out charity activities.
As per a Financial Express report, the actor's Sonu Sood Charity Foundation has been found to have collected donations to the tune of Rs 18.94 crore, while only Rs 1.9 crore was spent as per the IT sleuths.
FCRA regulations, too, have been violated, the department claimed.
"The main modus operandi followed by the actor had been to route his unaccounted income in the form of bogus unsecured loans from many bogus entities," NDTV quoted the IT department as saying.
Nothing has been proved as yet.
