Mani Ratnam is currently making a two-part epic historical fiction film titled 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The first part will head to theatres on September 30 this year.
In a recent interview, Prakash Raj revealed that the budget of the two-part film is Rs 300 Cr. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions have not made any reveal so far. The actor has spoken about the budget in a passing way in an interview with a YouTube channel.
The figure is truly shocking even for a two-part movie. Lyca Productions' involvement alone explains the huge scale of the multi-starrer, which will be released in multiple languages. Mani Ratnam is well past his glorious phase. He is still around, thanks to his finesse and track record. One hopes the story-telling knack of Mani will be seen in full glory in 'PS-I' and 'PS-II'.
Starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha Krishnan, Jayaram and others, the film has music by AR Rahman.
