SS Rajamouli has been accused of promoting Hindutva through his movies. 'Baahubali' had no prominent Muslim character, Leftists lamented. It had Shiva Lingam imagery at its core but non-Hindu religious symbols were absent, they decried.
'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram', too, has been at the receiving end of severe political and ideological attacks from Leftists. Ever since its theatrical release in March, they have trashed Rajamouli for allegedly showing a tribal freedom fighter (Bheem) as subservient to an upper-cast freedom fighter (Alluri). Anybody who has watched the movie carefully would know that Alluri comes to admire Bheem's ethics in the second half. 'RRR' promoted Hindu symbolism by showing Alluri as someone who is like Lord Rama. That's why the film has been targeted by Leftists, Rightists say.
Now that his father and writer Vijayendra Prasad has been nominated by the BJP government to the Rajya Sabha, the celebrated director must brace up for even more attacks for the rest of his career. Every time his character mouths a patriotic or religious dialogue, it will be described as an attempt to pander to the BJP's Hindutva ideology and corrupt the youths of the country. Wel, Rajamouli won't care!
