The talented Venu Thottempudi's comeback with 'Ramarao On Duty' has been majorly tom-tommed like anything. Venu gave multiple pre-release interviews. It seemed like debutant director Sarath Mandava had given him a promising role in the Ravi Teja-starrer. After all, Venu had been rejecting multiple character/supporting roles after 'Dammu' in 2012. He took almost 9 years to accept a film.
But, as it turns out, Venu has disappointed one and all. Far from rave reviews, the yesteryear hero is receiving flak. What is a bigger setback for him is that his dubbing hasn't gone down well with the audience. "His character is badly-etched, but the actor's inherent amicability could have made it work. Any chance of nostalgia over the Venu of 'Chiru Navvuto', 'Kalyana Ramudu', or 'Hanuman Junction' is stifled by using his voice this time around," wrote News9Live in its review of the film.
While all hype was around Venu, he has got a zero. On the other hand, someone who was not talked about has got full marks. No, not for her performance, but for drawing everyone's attention with her mere presence. She is Pavitra Lokesh, who has been in the thick of a controversy revolving around VK Naresh and the latter's third wife. Pavitra is said to be Naresh's girlfriend. She is seen as Naresh's Viyankuralu in the movie. They appear in the same scene thrice in the movie. The audience, who have been amused by their family matters in real life, reacted to their scenes by doing LOLs and mocking whistles during the early shows on Day 1.
