'Ante Sundaraniki' is hitting the cinemas on June 10. There is a view that the male lead, played by Nani, and his parents (played by Naresh and Rohini) are shown talking in a stereotypical manner because they are Brahmins. In real life, Brahmins don't talk like that.
A senior journalist, interviewing director Vivek Athreya, has asked about the stereotyping that 'Ante Sundaraniki' seems to have done. The director stated that he hasn't done any such thing. "We have tried to break the trend with our film. My film doesn't hurt any community," he added.
Among the more popular movies, Jr NTR's 'Adhurs' resorted to stereotypical slang just because Tarak is a Brahmin in the movie. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, orthodox Brahmin characters were represented in a particular style by Telugu films. Later, directors walked the same path in the name of comedy. A majority of Brahmins speak in neutral slang these days.
