A prime reason 'Acharya' was disappointing is that its casting was a complete disaster. We are talking about the villains and supporting characters. Nobody liked watching Sonu Sood in a negative role when his real-life image is that of a hero. Jisshu Sengupta is a face a majority of the Telugu audience are not familiar with; no wonder his scenes were so jaded. The supporting artists are even more badly miscast in the film: Ajay shouldn't have played a dull Ayurvedic practitioner, Banerjee feels so 1990s. You can go on talking about Koratala Siva's unwise casting choices.
'Waltair Veerayya', starring Chiranjeevi, may also be slightly about wrong casting choices. It is too early days to comment, but on the face of it, the names don't sound great. Samuthirakani is playing a key role. In all probability, he has once again been cast in a negative role, after films like 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata'. People are already bored of watching him in movie after movie these days. He is becoming another Jagapathi Babu.
Then there is Catherine Tresa, who is not exactly known to be a performer. Wonder what role she is playing in the Chiranjeevi movie. Bobby Simha is also playing a crucial role. He is yet to impress the Telugu audience with a memorable performance.
One hopes director Bobby is going to prove the critics wrong, though.
