'Selfiee', the comedy-drama starring Akshay Kumar as a film superstar and Emraan Hashmi as an RTO Inspector, has turned out to be an embarrassing flop. The film hit the cinemas this Friday.
As per trade reports, the remake of the Malayalam movie 'Driving License' (2019) is on its way to becoming of the biggest BO flops ever. Its Nett. collections in India on Day One stand at Rs 2 Cr or thereabouts. In national multiplex chains, it made Rs 1.30 Cr only.
At this rate, 'Selfiee' will leave its producers (read Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Supriya Menon, Karan Johar, Mollywood actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, Apoorva Mehta, Listin Stephen) with some outlandish numbers. Non-theatrical revenues must be strong for the film, considering its genre and star power.
The theatrical failure is surprising all the more because the film has received mostly positive reviews. Times of India, giving it a 3.5-star rating, described it as a "rib-tickling comedy peppered with good performances".
