Film observers defend Jr NTR's 'fake accent'

Jr NTR has been accused of putting up a fake accent while in the US during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. In his interactions with the American press, the talented actor has been found to be trying to speak the way Americans speak. This has been described as fake and unnatural by many in India.

However, some believe that Tarak is right. Film journalist Ram Venkat Srikar observes that picking up an accent is a skill, something that cannot be mastered easily. He adds that the attempt to inject the nation-angle into the debate is distasteful. "What's there to be offended about his accent? Don't we appreciate Kamal Haasan for flaunting different dialects of Telugu in 'Maro Charitra'?" he asks.

Senior journalist Sudhir Srinivasan says, "I would argue that when one tries to make oneself understood in a different country by attempting to speak like them, it's a sign of empathy and adaptation. It's natural; it's instinctive."

But most Netizens are trolling and criticizing Tarak. Wrote Anand Sangeetam, "The whole accent thing is exactly the anti-thesis of Bheem's character and the opposite of the essence of Naatu."

Another social media user says, "Americans don't acquire the Indian accent when they are in India. Why do Indians do that in the US, then? Is it a case of us looking at Americans as culturally superior?"
