Today's Tamil-language release 'Thunivu' must be an occasion when our heroes such as Allu Arjun and Prabhas must sincerely thank the likes of Sukumar and SS Rajamouli for raising the stature of Telugu cinema beyond the reach of Kollywood filmmakers like Atlee and H Vinoth. Seriously!
'Thunivu' is yet another reminder that the mainstream masala Tamil cinema is failing to catch up with Telugu cinema over and over. Again and again. Year after year.
There was a time when Shankar used to be the most superior masala filmmaker down South. His 'Anniyan', released as 'Aparichitudu', was one of the most popular movies of the 2000s in Andhra Pradesh. But in the last 12-15 years, Tamil directors have lost their magic and the Telugu audience are not bowled over by their creativity.
Had it not been for 'Baahubali' and 'Pushpa', Prabhas and Bunny would have probably been doing films like 'Thunivu' and 'Beast as remakes or something. Imagine Prabhas doing 'Tegimpu' in Telugu and Ajith doing it in Tamil simultaneously and the same getting marketed maniacally as the next big thing in Indian cinema. Thank God for Rajamouli that Prabhas is doing 'Project K' and 'Salaar' today.
And thank God for Sukumar that Allu Arjun is not doing a film with an AR Murugadoss or a Lingusamy. He is proudly doing a pan-India project like 'Pushpa 2'.
We ought to be really grateful to Rajamouli and Sukumar for saving Tollywood heroes forever.
