Roshan Kanakala, the son of Suma and Rajeev Kanakala, is going to debut as a hero. His maiden venture is directed by Ravikanth Perepu of 'Kshanam' fame. Titled 'Bubblegum', the rom-com entertainer will hit the cinemas later this year. SS Rajamouli, the other day, unveiled its first look.
Roshan is making his acting debut at a time when even seniors like Sudheer Babu are failing spectacularly to generate even half-decent openings. Some of his contemporaries have been smart and lucky. Think of Sangeeth Shoban, who did two web series before debuting on the silver screen with 'MAD'.
Director Ravikanth Perepu is no pushover. He is a talent with a grip on what he does. His second directorial, 'Krishna And His Leela', is one of the very few direct-to-OTT hits since the onset of the pandemic. This is one factor that is working in Roshan's favour. People Media Factory backing 'Bubblegum' is another asset.
On the flip side, rom-coms have to be truly innovative for them to click at the box office these days. Roshan has a lot of structural and trend-related issues to grapple with. Hope he successfully overcomes these daunting obstacles on his journey.
