'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in the lead, was released in theatres on April 11. The film was made on a budget of Rs 350 Cr as per some speculative reports. It is said that, by the end of its lifetime run at the box office, the action entertainer won't make even Rs 60 Cr (gross). Non-theatrical revenues must have fetched decent amounts.
If what media reports say is the budget of the film holds, 'BMCM' is one of the costliest disasters ever made by an Indian film industry. But then, the budget looks irrationally exaggerated by media reports.
In Bollywood, budgets are ascertained based on a scientific analysis of reality. The budget of Prabhas' 'Spirit' is Rs 300 Cr. T-Series is clear about the revenue realization and the sources of revenue. The budget of 'Spirit' is just Rs 300 Cr when the film is expected to make more than Rs 150 Cr in Telugu alone. Given this reality, it is inconceivable that someone might have invested Rs 350 Cr on a film with a negligible theatrical market in non-Hindi languages.
Akshay Kumar has had a bad going at the box office since the pandemic. No producer would invest that much in his film.
