Vikram's 'Thangalaan' is rumoured to be considering an Independence Day release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. If that happens, it might compete with 'Double iSmart' and a few other Telugu movies which are slated to be released on the same date (August 15) at the Telugu box office.
The Vikram-starrer is directed by Pa. Ranjith, who is not a commercial director. If 'Double iSmart' generates even above-average buzz, Vikram's movie will undoubtedly be crushed at the box office.
If 'Thangalaan' flops in Telugu, it will further diminish his stature in the Telugu States. The film, however, might become a hit in Tamil.
A direct contest between an unconventional film like 'Thangalaan' and an action entertainer like 'Double iSmart' will be so interesting. The outcome of the contest will be keenly watched by cinephiles, although a win in favour of the Ram Pothineni-Puri Jagannadh duo will be happily embraced by the general audience.
