In recent times, re-releases have had a mixed run. 'Samara Simha Reddy' was a dud, while 'Oy!' was a hit upon its re-release recently. Musical hits have been preferred by youngsters if they belong to the rom-com genre.
The 2001 movie 'Nuvvu Nenu' is going to re-released on March 21 in the Telugu States. Coming out in theatres 23 years after its original release, this one stars late Uday Kiran and Anitha in the lead roles. It was director Teja's biggest hit followed by 'Jayam'.
At the time of its release, Uday Kiran was not yet a star hero. With its big success, he joined the ranks of medium-range heroes. However, his career didn't take off. His wedding with Chiranjeevi's daughter fell on the rocks. He went into a depression and died by suicide years later.
If 'Nuvvu Nenu' clicks at the box-office this month, it will be a befitting tribute to Uday. The film's songs, composed by RP Patnaik, were massive chartbusters back in the day.
