Superstar Mahesh Babu turns 37 today. Born on August 9, 1975, Mahesh Babu began his film journey in 1979 when he appeared as child artist in ‘Needa’. In 1999, he made his debut as hero in ‘Raja Kumarudu’ which earned him the First Nandi Award for Best Male Debut. He was fondly called as ‘Prince’ by his fans from then onwards. Mahesh gained altogether Six Nandi Awards of which two were for Best Actor Awards for ‘Nijam’ (2003) and ‘Athadu’ (2005).
In 2003, Mahesh starred in endearing action entertainer ‘Okkadu’ in which an aspirant Kabbadi player rescues a Rayalaseema girl from the clutches of a merciless factionalist leader, who is obsessed with the idea of marrying her. The super duper hit movie is a favourite of many even today and earned Mahesh Babu his First Filmfare Award. In the same year, after ‘Okkadu’, Mahesh gained the prestigious Nandi award for Best Actor for the film ‘Nijam’. Although the film failed miserably at the box-office, the actor won the hearts of Nandi awards jury with his brilliant performance. In 2005, he again won a Nandi award in Best Actor category for his mind-blowing performance in ‘Athadu’ which turned out to be a blockbuster. The following year, Mahesh earned yet another Filmfare award as Best Actor for his role in ‘Pokiri’ in which he delivers a truly spectacular performance. After ‘Pokiri’, he continued to star in films like ‘Sainikudu’, ‘Athidhi’ and ‘Khaleja’, but all of them bombed at box-office sadly.
In 2011, Mahesh Babu refilled his energy and teamed up with Sreenu Vaitla for ‘Dookudu’, in which the actor performed comedy for about 90% of the film. It was his first attempt in full-length comedy based film and it proved him as a complete actor. He gained his 3rd Filmfare Best Actor Award for his effortless performance in ‘Dookudu’. Apart from Best Actor award, ‘Dookudu’ won awards in several other categories like best music, best playback singer, best film, best director, best comedian, etc. While his ‘Pokiri’ rewrote the history of 75 years of Telugu Film Industry, ‘Dookudu’ surpassed it in 81 years of Telugu Film Industry and earned him a new image from Prince Mahesh Babu to Superstar Mahesh Babu.
Maintaining his superstar image, Mahesh exhibited his star power at the box-office with Puri Jagannath ‘Businessman’ in the beginning of this year. Not stopping with that, he turned out to be the 5th Most Desirable Man in India in nationwide poll conduction by Times of India in January. The year is keeping him really busy with two of his upcoming films – SVSC and Sukumar’s untitled film, of which SVSC is sure to release in this year only. Expectations are also high on it since it’s his first multi-starrer film. This is the exact reason why he was labeled as one of the greatest movie stars in the present generation.
2012 is surely one of the best years in his film career as well as personal life. Apart from the tasting success with 'Businessman', receiving awards for 'Dookudu', getting the tile as India's 5th Most Desirable Man and doing his first multi-starrer film 'Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu'; Mahesh welcomed his beautiful angel Sitara into his life.
Now can anyone forget the voice work that Mahesh did in Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Jalsa’? He also lent his voice for a song in ‘Businessman’. Apart from all these, the actor has been endorsing many products like Thums Up, Univercell, Provogue, Idea Cellular, Jos Alukkas, Amrutanjan, Vivel, Navaratna Oil, Santoor Soap, etc., in Andhra Pradesh. Yes, he has proven time after time that he is a truly magnificent actor that can pull off multiple roles superbly.
