Legendry actress Manorama is no more. She died of multiple organ failure in Chennai on Saturday. She was 78. Manorama is survived by her son and singer-actor Boopathy. She was lovingly called Aachi by her fans. Tamil media reports say she appeared in more than 1,000 films in a career spanning nearly six decades and holds the record of having acted with 5 chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh named Annadurai, Karunanidhi, MGR, Jayalalitha and NTR. Although she mainly appeared in Tamil films, she also acted in other South Indian language movies and in Hindi. In 2002, she received Padma Shri award from central government. She was the recipient of the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu, National best actress award and Film Fare award. While Manorama became famous for her comedy roles in films, she became a character artist in the later part of her career. Very few women actresses have managed to continue their career in the Tamil film industry over so many years and holds the record as the one and only women actress in gunnies book of world record.
In one of her interviews, veteran actress Manorama said, “I have no regrets at all and feels blessed to have done all I did in my life and career. Even in my next birth, I want to be born as Manorama again. I want same life and same people around me. Most of all, I want my mom with me again."
She started acting in plays at the age of 12 and her actual name is Gopi Santha. She has born at Mannargudi in Tanjavur district. He entered into the silver screen as heroine in the 1958 Tamil film Maalayitta Mangai. She was very excited to act in ‘Sigam 3’. But, she is no more now. It is a very sad news for the entire film industry.
