Movies and Sports are the only zone, where people get united beyond all barriers and differentiations. So, when it comes blended together, the audience welcomes it with positive reception. We have seen many instances in the past and now ‘Dhoni Kabadi Kuzhu’ joins the league.
The film features Abhilash in lead role. He shot to fame as a child artist through the TV series ‘My Dear Bhootham’. Recently, his performance as an antagonist in ‘Nagesh Thiraiarangam’ gained good response for him. Sharing his experience working in this film Abhilash says, “The title ‘Dhoni Kabadi Kuzhu’ itself reveals the story. In Tamil industry, it is always proven that ‘A Good story is the hero’. Obviously, the film’s major strength is the story. I would say, the film revolves around two heroes – Cricket and Kabadi.”
Being a part of sports based film; it should have really demanded more training to gain perfection in these games. “Cricket is always been a part of everyone in us. I have been playing ever since my childhood. It demanded lots of efforts to make it through with Kabadi. I underwent training nearly for a month.”
Talking about others in the star-cast, the actor adds, “I wouldn’t say that I am playing the lead role, but there are 8 characters in the film, which are protagonists.”
Filmmaker P.Iyyappan, a former associate of director A Venkatesh makes his directorial debut with this film. When asked if this film is based on real life incidents, he opines, “No! This is purely fictional, but has some reflections from my own experience. I grew up playing Kabadi in my school and was a champion. But lately in time, all my friends had their interests shifted towards cricket. Initially, I used to be angry about my friends when they play cricket. But gradually, I had been attracted towards it and started playing it. Dhoni Kabadi Kuzhu will be a kind of movie that has a social message, which is adherent to nativity and our culture.”
Apart from the actors, some of the real life Kabbadi players are also part of this film. Leema, who shared screen space with Dulquer Salmaan in ‘Pattam Pole’ is playing the female lead role.
The others in star-cast includes Thenali, Saranya, Senthil, Pugazh, Vijith Saravanan, C.N. Prabakaran, Rishi, Naveen Shankar, Sujin, Peter and few more.
P. Iyyappan has penned story, screenplay and dialogues apart from wielding the megaphone. Roshan Joesph CJ (Music), C.M. Mahendran (Background Music), Na. Rasa (Lyrics), Venkatesh D.F. Tech (Cinematography), U. Karthikeyan (Editor), A.C. Sekar (Art), K. Manoharan (Costumes) are the technicians involved in the film.
The film was shot against the backdrops of Viluppuram, Ulundurpettai and Kallakurichi in 40 days. The post-production works are happening on full swing and plans are going on to release the film by August-September 2018. S. Nandha Kumar has produced this film.
The title logo of Dhoni Kabadi Kuzhu will be unveiled on the coming Saturday (July 7), which marks the birthday of Indian Cricket Team Captain MS Dhoni.
