It was on this day (9 October) in 1992 that Chiranjeevi's 'Aapadbandhavudu' was released. Written and directed by K Viswanath, the film had a number of unique features, like most of Viswanath's films.

Bankrolled by Edida Nageswara Rao, the film featured the Megastar and Meenakshi Seshadri as the lead pair. It marked the debut of filmmaker Jandhyala as an actor (he was also its dialogue writer). Sharath Babu had a supporting role.

'Aapadbandhavudu' went on to win five state Nandi Awards (Best Actor for Chiranjeevi being the major one). The 'Sye Raa' actor also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. It's said that Chiru missed the National Award by a whisker.

With music by MM Keeravani, the drama had a number of memorable scenes, including those in which Chiru would behave like a mentally-challenged person to save Meenakshi from damnation. His Lord Shiva get-up and act were much appreciated.
