It was on 9 August 2006 that 'Bommarillu' headed to the theatres. Marking the 15th anniversary of the family entertainer, director Bhaskar has opened up on Genelia's character in the movie.
Speaking to a YouTube channel, Bhaskar said that the female lead didn't have much role in the original draft that was narrated to producer Dil Raju. So, Raju asked Bhaskar and writer Vasu Varma to work on the character. He gave them 15 days.
Bhaskar and Varma struggled to elaborate the character and devise its characterization for 14 days. They couldn't sleep well the night before their scheduled appointment with Raju. This is when, in the wee hours of the D-Day, Bhaskar told Varma about a girl he had seen a few years ago. "When someone accidentally dashed into the girl, she asked her to hit her again to avert horns from flowering out of their heads. When I told this to Varma, he loved it and we started spinning scenes around the trait," Bhaskar revealed.
The film starred Siddharth in the lead.
