The Jaganmohan Reddy government on Monday announced the re-opening of theatres, dine-in restaurants, marriage halls and gyms in the State from July 8. While theatres will be re-opened, their operational capacity will be only 50%. There has to be a gap of one seat between two individuals. This is how restrictions were imposed when theatres were re-opened in December last. Films like 'Solo Brathuke So Better', 'Krack', and the Sankranthi releases this year were all released in this environment.
However, this time, producers may not be too keen to release movies in the current circumstances. Firstly, there is no festival this month to cater to eager festive crowds with half the running capacity. Secondly, industry observers are disheartened that the AP government has not yet relooked into the ticket pricing issue so far.
In Telangana, theaters are eligible to operate at 100% capacity.
Once the issues in AP are resolved, the delayed Summer releases like 'Tuck Jagadish' and 'Love Story' will find a breather.
