Lyricist Kandikonda Yadagiri, who has been suffering from throat cancer, is currently hospitalized. The lyricist hails from Warangal and is referred to as the Shalivahana Muddu Bidda in Telangana folk circles. Born in a lower-middle-class family, Kandikonda has written a number of songs glorifying the culture of Telangana and its festivals. He completed Ph.D at Osmania University.
He has penned over 1200 songs for Telugu films as well as for special occasions such as Telangana Bonalu Jatara and the Sammakka Sarakka tradition.
Kandikondla was hospitalized for two weeks at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. KIMS Hospital is now taking care of him. Ventilator charges to the tune of more than Rs 70,000 have been incurred.
