SS Rajamouli and controversy are opposites. But an old Facebook post made by Rajamouli as back as 2012 has been haunting him to this day. If you are someone who follows the views of Dalit writers and authors who talk about subaltern social issues, you would have already come across the criticism ever since 'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram' hit the cinemas.
In the 2012 post, Rajamouli happened to rationalize the caste hierarchy. He suggested that the Brahmin-Kshatriya-Vysya-Sudra division was understandable. It has been ten years. Rajamoulis' views may have changed. But the old post has been used as a stick to beat his films with.
A journalist named Bala, in his review of 'RRR', said that the film is in your face. "Rajamouli who had earlier endorsed the Hindu caste system on social media, reaffirms his belief by showing Adivasis as a community who need to be educated. The film also has a Brahminical agenda where Adivasis are appropriated into the Hindu fold. I really want someone from the Adivasi community to write an open letter to Rajamouli and call him out for his insensitivity," he says.
When is the controversy stopping to trouble Rajamouli's image among a niche audience?
