AR Rahman may just have indirectly asked South Indian filmmakers to stop casting only fair-skinned heroines opposite our heroes. At an event on Monday, this is what the Oscar-winning composer said:
"We need to do is we need to cast people with colour. Make them empowering and give them characters which will give them dignity."
Telugu and Tamil movies, especially, have cast only fair-skinner actresses opposite our superstars like Mahesh Babu, Vijay, Pawan Kalyan, and Prabhas. We don't even consider our girls, audition them and cast the suitable ones. But when others make colour-based racist comments, we are offended. One hopes AR Rahman's advice is followed by at least a couple of star directors. That will trigger change!
