Acharya's miserable performance on the first weekend has become the biggest talk of the town. Every major producer/distributor must be talking about the magnitude of the disaster as we write. Probably, even other film industries in India are whispering about how massive a disaster it has turned out to be.
The numbers are truly shocking. The Nizam distributor, as per an estimate, is going to lose Rs 25 Cr on the Chiranjeevi-Ram Charan duo's epic misfire. This is an unbearably high figure. As per another estimate, the US distributor is losing about $1.6 million.
The figures are underwhelming in Ceded and Andhra as well.
If 'Acharya' ends up logging a share of something like Rs 30-32 Cr in the Telugu States in its lifetime run, it will be a humiliation of sorts.
Tollywood is truly shaken now. This worse-than-'SPYder' performance will make distributors wary about betting big on movies just because of the track record of the hero/director. Also, hiking ticket prices doesn't necessarily translate into spiked profits. Telugu cinema has learned the lesson the harder way this season!
