Veteran actor Murali Mohan has been into real estate prominently in the last few decades. In his latest interview, he revealed that a particular film that he released threw up heavy losses in the late 1990s.
It is Mani Ratnam's 'Iddaru' ('Iruvar' in Tamil). Murali Mohan presented the Telugu-dubbed version of the Mohanlal-Aishwarya Rai starrer. There was exceeding hype around the movie because of the star cast, the director, and Brand AR Rahman. But Murali Mohan's calculations fell flat when the film bombed at the box office in Telugu.
"All the money that I had made till then (on movie productions) went down the drain," Murali Mohan said. Jayabheri Arts, Mohan's production company, produced about 23 movies before that. Seventy percent of those films clicked commercially.
In 2005, Jayabheri Arts made a comeback with Mahesh Babu's 'Athadu'. The film's budget went up beyond the planned figure because it couldn't be completed in time.
