August has been defined by four box-office arrivals. And all four of them have been released during the pre-Independence weekend. In Hindi, Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' and Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' hit the cinemas, while Chiranjeevi's 'Bholaa Shankar' and Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' hit the cinemas in Telugu and Tamil, respectively.
On Sunday, as per official figures, the PVR-Inox multiplex chain in India registered the highest-ever daily and weekend figure, thanks to the four new releases. It is reported that as many as 12.80 lakh tickets got sold at its hundreds of screens across the country. The total collections stand at Rs 39.50 Cr (Gross).
The audience have thoroughly embraced the two Bollywood films. 'Gadar 2' is a massive hit on the single screens as well in North India.
The huge collections go to show that Indian middle-class people are doing a lot of spending on entertainment and recreation. The above-quoted figure doesn't include the unknown Foods & Beverages spend.
