The pre-Independence weekend (August 11 to 13) is officially the greatest ever in the history of Indian cinema. In Hindi, Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' and Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' hit the cinemas, while Chiranjeevi's 'Bholaa Shankar' and Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' hit the cinemas in Telugu and Tamil, respectively.
As per the Producers Guild of India and the Multiplex Association of India, more than 2.10 crore people watched the above four movies across India on single screens and multiplexes. Together, the four films minted Rs 390 crores (Gross). This is truly historic.
In the 100-year history of Indian cinema, this is the highest ever in terms of footfalls and box office numbers. "Indian cinema is back in full action," the industry heads said in the statement.
It may be noted that 'Gadar'and 'OMG' are sequels.
